Support Ithaca's Summer Bookmobile

Hello, we are Milly and Maureen, elementary school librarians in Ithaca, NY and creators of the Ithaca City School District summer bookmobile. In 2021, after years of lamenting the fact that our school libraries closed for the summer, leaving many of our students without access to books, we decided to do something about it. We connected with district administration for funding, borrowed a district van for the summer, and filled it with books.

Since then, we have been running the bookmobile every summer. We drive around town every week, connecting with summer camps and neighborhoods, and circulating books to kids to keep their reading lives thriving all summer long. We have big dreams of retrofitting a school bus and enlarging our footprint someday, but for now we are keeping it small.

Until this summer, we have had access to a small book budget so we can update our collection each year. Unfortunately, the district can no longer support our book buying needs. Can you give a few dollars to keep Ithaca kids reading exciting new books all summer long? Our readers thank you!
