My mom, Isis, suffered a severe heart attack on September 14th with almost 100% blockage of her major arteries. She hasn’t been able to leave the hospital due to complications with her blood pressure, blood sugars, and gallbladder, which caused her heart to become increasingly weak before her scheduled open-heart surgery. The surgery was delayed as her heart was too weak, but she was finally able to have the planned LVAD procedure on October 7th. The LVAD works as a bridge to an eventual transplant but requires drastic lifestyle changes and activity restrictions.
Now, my mom is facing complications with her lungs and potential pneumonia.
We are hoping to get assistance to offset costs from the ambulance ride from Gardiner to Portland, multiple procedures, and extended hospital stay. Now that my mom has had surgery, we’ve also realized the reality of having to renovate my parents’ home to make it accessible enough for her to adjust to her new normal. Most significantly, the bathroom will be almost completely inaccessible.
Asking for help has been extremely difficult. Anything and everything is genuinely appreciated.
I love you, Mom.
