Support Ishwara Grant's Heart Surgery Journey
Donation protected
My name is Ish Grant Harrison, and I’m reaching out for support as I prepare for a major open-heart surgery on July 16th, 2025. This will be my third heart surgery—this time, a valve replacement that has become urgently necessary after years of complications and declining health. I was born with a rare congenital heart defect called interrupted aortic arch (IAA), and I’ve already undergone four heart surgeries, including the implantation of a mechanical valve. Despite these interventions, I’ve lived with persistent autoimmune symptoms that have worsened significantly over time. Most days, I’m too weak or in too much pain to complete ordinary tasks like walking a few blocks, cooking, or even standing for long periods. Over the past year, my condition has sharply declined. I’ve been in and out of hospitals, navigating, chronic pain, severe migraines, temporary blindness, and extreme fatigue. After much advocacy, my doctors have confirmed that I need a Ross procedure—a complex and high-risk surgery that could finally give me a better quality of life. I’m currently unable to work, and the financial strain of recovery—combined with the cost of living—has become impossible to shoulder alone. I’m turning to my community with hope, because I believe in the power of mutual aid and collective care. This is a journey I simply can’t navigate without support. With your help, I’m hoping to raise $20,000 to cover: • Rent for the remainder of the year • Medications (including those not covered by insurance) • Groceries and meals during recovery • Utilities and essential bills • Transportation to and from medical appointments • Post-op care and recovery support I also want to share that I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year. Because I’m on blood thinners for my heart, I’m unable to take most pain relief medications—leaving me to endure daily pain from both heart and gynecological conditions. It’s become painfully clear how often people with uteruses are left out of the conversation when it comes to complex cardiac care. Any support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply holding my story with care—means the world to me. Thank you for being part of this community and walking beside me.
With deep gratitude,
Ish
