"In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability." 2 Corinthians 8:2-3 (NIV)
ABOUT ME & MY ROAD TO RECOVERY
Hi, my name is Ishan Abraham. In 2018, my health journey began when I started treatment for seizures. Unfortunately, I developed a variety of debilitating symptoms along the way, including chronic fatigue, severe brain fog, dizziness, nausea, digestive issues, insomnia, widespread pain throughout the body, and sensitivities to various foods, light and sound, among other symptoms. To date, doctors have diagnosed me with several conditions, including Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.), Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (E.P.I.), and Epilepsy, which have dramatically changed the way I am able to live my life. All aspects of my life have been affected, including my ability to talk, walk, eat, sleep, socialize, work, and think. As a result, I have to be careful with my limited energy and focus my efforts on essential activities. I always need to be mindful of every action I take and its impact on my body. It’s been tremendously challenging. Last year, I had a doctor who advised me that I may not live a lot longer, but by the grace of God, I’m continuing to fight for my life.
Every day is different. My symptoms are unpredictable, and my progress is non-linear, wherein some days I can do more, and some days I need to rest. When you see me out or speak to me over the phone, it’s because I’ve rested and the severity of my symptoms are lower. Often, a lot goes on under the surface, but I do my best to put on a brave face. My efforts towards working a paid job have proven unsustainable. Nevertheless, I continue to attempt to work and search for opportunities better suited for my situation. I don’t always feel comfortable sharing the details of my hardships, but I’ve found the need to practice humility, be vulnerable, and let others come alongside me. Throughout this journey, I continue to experience the peace and joy of God in my heart and feel mentally resilient; however, physically, there is enormous scope for improvement. I am grateful to God, my family, friends, church, and community for supporting me.
MY CURRENT STATUS
I’ve seen over 25 specialists and had extensive testing done. I’ve explored a variety of treatments, ranging from Western medicine to Eastern and holistic modalities. The treatments that are working best for me are holistic, targeting the root cause of the issue instead of just managing symptoms. I’m currently under the care of multiple practitioners who are monitoring my progress and updating my treatment plan. I’ve been advised to continue with my treatments for at least another year to see sustainable results and, hopefully, remission of the disease. While I have health insurance, many of the treatments are expenses that are not covered. I’ve received help from family, friends, nonprofits, and churches for the past few years. I’ve exhausted my savings, taken on credit card debt and loans to cover my medical expenses.
WILL YOU HELP ME?
I am immensely grateful to all those who have helped me during this difficult period. With this said, there is still a long road ahead, and I’d like to invite you all in. This is me asking for a shot at survival, and I humbly request your support. Please consider donating if you can. Any amount is appreciated. Your prayers and support mean a lot to me.
If you also feel led to share this with others who may be willing to support, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, and may God bless you!
