In the beginning of July my daughter Isabella started having weakness in her hands & feet. On July 20 while at work she fell & couldn’t get up. We are so thankful to her coworkers & boss for helping & being so supportive! On July 21 we went to the ER. Several blood tests were ordered along with a low back MRI. The blood tests were normal & MRI showed very minimal disk degeneration in L5 & were sent home with steroids. The following week she was failing considerably & I finally got someone at the doctors office to listen to me & ordered a whole body MRI on August 2. While trying to get her to the car for the appointment she fell down the front stairs & I had to call an ambulance. She was brought to Thedacare in Neenah. She had no reflexes & full body MRI was normal. She was admitted & a lumbar puncture & EMG were ordered for the next day. On August 3 she was diagnosed with Guillain Berre Syndrome. Her body mistakes the nerves as bacteria & attacks them. She had infusions & was hospitalized for a month where she underwent very aggressive Phyical & Occupational therapy. She has had to learn to rewalk again & relearn her finger movement in hands. Her journey is far from over. Dr’s estimate 6-12 months of at home & outpatient therapy. She needs care 24/7. I am very fortunate to be caring for my handicapped niece who can come to our house but hours are limiting. I need to be with her but there’s a struggle with bills & rent. Any support would be appreciated. It’s so hard to watch your child go through something you can’t help or control!!
