Support Isaac's Battle Against Lymphoma
Donation protected
I have created this Go Fund Me on behalf of Isaac Elizondo and his family. I met Isaac when he and my son were in the same preschool class when they were only 3. My son adored him and I became very good friends with Isaac's mom, Dalia.
Isaac turned 13 this year and is in 7th Grade at Taft Middle School in Crown Point, IN. Isaac has played soccer through Crown Point Youth Soccer since he was little. Isaac is a very laid-back kid and extremely giving and caring, like his mom.
On Dalia's birthday (April 19th), she hugged Isaac and noticed a lump on his neck. The very next day she took Isaac to urgent care where they prescribed him an antibiotic for what they suspected was an underlying infection. They also suggested it could be a dental issue. She took him straight to the dentist where X-rays and an exam ruled out dental issues.
On April 23rd, they saw Isaac's pediatrician who ordered blood work and an ultrasound. This was completed on April 25th. The very next day the pediatrician called and stated his blood work was good and Dalia felt relieved.
On May 3rd the pediatrician called with the ultrasound report and told Dalia she was referring Isaac to Hematology/Oncology. Within minutes, Dalia was called by the University of Chicago staff and Isaac was scheduled for May 7th.
At this next appointment, they were told the lump had to be removed and biopsied. This was done on May 10th. The tumor removed was 4.5 cm.
Dalia received a call on May 13th that completely upturned their world. Dalia was told that her only child had cancer and that it could be Lymphoma, Leukemia or a blood cancer. The very next day Isaac was back at the University of Chicago for a bone marrow biopsy, a spinal tap and his first session of chemotherapy. The next day was the last school day Isaac could attend and he suffered an extreme migraine from the spinal tap. Isaac powered his way through the school day and they received news that blood cancer was ruled out from the spinal tap.
Isaac was admitted on May 16th for surgery to place his port for chemotherapy and to start his first 5 days of chemotherapy. The bone marrow biopsy ruled out Leukemia.
Isaac then received his diagnosis of T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. This is highly aggressive and very rare in children. It is also HIGHLY responsive to chemotherapy.
Isaac has a long, but ever so hopeful road to recovery.
I am asking for donations to help cover medical expenses, living expenses and travel expenses. Due to the aggressive nature of his cancer, his treatments require him to be hospitalized for 1 week periods each time he has a round of chemotherapy. Dalia and her husband, Ricardo are doing what they can to maintain their employment, but deserve to have the financial stress removed so they can be present with Isaac and their family.
