Iris is a shining light that lives her life surrounding herself and others with love. She is a mother, grandmother, wife, caregiver, and friend. At almost 74 years old, she spends her days working at Healing Partners of the Central Coast (they offer free Healing Touch energy therapy sessions to cancer patients), caring for her husband Tom of over 50 years, and on her favorite days, spending time with her three grandchildren.

This past December, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. After surgery and spending almost two full weeks in the hospital, Iris is finally home. With the help of her friends and family, she has been able to rest and take care of herself. Next up will be chemotherapy.

Iris's levelheadedness keeps her present, taking one day, minute, second at a time. What weighs on her, though, is how this cancer will financially stress her resources. Since Iris won't be able to work for a while, things are going to be uncomfortably tight. With the cost of everything going up and medications already extraordinarily high, staying calm, staying rested, and staying present isn't always easy.
