UPDATE 3/9/25: Since we raised enough money to help Irias get the surgery he needed for his leg, he has been discharged and is living close to the city for further outpatient treatment. He is slowly regaining movement in his right arm and leg but is waiting for a therapy appointment to further improve his mobility. His speech has improved greatly as he continues to practice talking. His surgical wounds are healing excellently. The biggest expenses moving forward for Irias and his sister Katy who takes care of him are rent, food, and the cost of follow up appointments. The most costly follow up appointment include neurosurgery to assess the brain bleed he suffered, using through various tests and scans that will all cost money.

Although Irias got him by a drunk driver, Irias's lawyer dropped their case because the guilty party simply refuses to pay and in Honduras, sadly there's no laws that can provide compensation to Irias at this time. Since he and Katy are not able work and since his family is also struggling financially, they are still in need of financial support. Thank you for all your help thus far and please keep them in your prayers.

UPDATE 12/21/25: Due to so many people’s generosity, Irias was able to have the right femur replacement that we raised funds for! He is still hospitalized and stable, awaiting 2 more operations. One is a plastic surgery operation to close up the major wound on his right ankle. The other is a brain surgery to evacuate what may be a brain bleed that is causing him to lose his speech and function of the right side of his body. Both of these operations are pending the availability of the surgeons and and opening in the OR. Please be praying that he would be able to get these surgeries soon. Please also consider giving to supply Irias and his family with the ability to pay for the surgical supplies, which is the patient’s responsibility is in public Honduran hospitals. Also, he is needing frequent blood transfusions and regular things like water, hygiene products, and materials for dressing changes on his femur and ankle. Thank you so much! God bless you.

ORIGINAL POST:
Hello, my name is Clarissa Longoria and I am making this gofundme on behalf of a friend of mine named Irias Tomas. I met Irias 9 years ago on a missionary internship in Puerto Lempira, Honduras. He was a student at the school I was serving at, which was a school led by American missionaries in partnership with local Honduran teachers. It was made to serve underprivileged kids in the community and the students were supported by sponsors who would give a monthly donation to fund the student's academic expenses. I became Irias's sponsor and spent a total of 4 months in Honduras over 2 summers. There I got to know Irias as a fun, humble, creative, patient, and sweet kid. Now, he is hard-working adult in Honduras and has gotten into a life changing, tragic accident and I ask for your help to support Irias and his family in this moment. Below is a letter that describes the situation at hand. Let's come together to help pay the medical bills that Irias has so that he can get the care he needs to heal from this. Thank you so much for your support.

"Hello, my name is Irías Tomás, I am 22 years old, and this fundraiser has been created on my behalf due to a recent accident that has left me in a very difficult situation. A few days ago, I was riding my motorcycle when I was hit by another vehicle. The impact was so strong that I fell into a coma for three days. Today, I am alive by the grace of God, and I am fighting to recover little by little.

Although I woke up from the coma, I am still hospitalized with serious injuries and am under medical care. The doctors informed my family that I urgently need an orthopedic rod that costs 11,000 lempiras ($419USD) as well as other medical expenses required during my hospitalization, treatment, and recovery process.

I have always been a respectful, humble, and hardworking person, doing my best to move forward and support those around me. Now, unexpectedly, I find myself needing the help of others in order to continue the treatment that will allow me to walk again and return to my normal life.

I sincerely ask for your support during this difficult time.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference in my recovery.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity, your prayers, and for sharing this campaign.
God bless you."
