Support Ingrid Boehl's transplant

Donation protected

Ingrid Boehl has been a resident of Hackettsown for about 40 years. She has touched so many lives during that time, whether it be babysitting for local families (even doing so for little or even nothing for struggling families!), rescuing animals or injured wildlife, taking in foster children or individuals who were struggling, housing international students, volunteering at the local animal shelter, or supporting shut-ins and lonely elderly residents by bringing them food, love, and never ending emotional support. She has brought so much joy and even when she was caring for her mother with dementia and Alzheimer's, and more recently when her own health began to fail her, she always helped if someone was in need. A selfless and compassionate person, she would give her everything to help another.

Now she needs our help and support - emotionally, physically, and financially. Ingrid has been struggling with end stage COPD. She has been approved and listed for a lung transplant through the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in Philadelphia. Her lungs are failing her, but the rest of her is quite healthy. Unfortunately, she had a bad exacerbation of her illness about 2 months ago - and really has never rebounded. She came home from the hospital for a period of time (and was basically housebound) but two weeks ago we had to call 911 and rush her back to the hospital because she could not breathe. She was transferred down here to HUP and will need to remain in Philadelphia until a matching donor lung/lungs become available because she needs acute care at this point. This requires us, as her supporting family, to travel back and forth, while maintaining a room at the Gift of Life Transplant House http://www.giftoflifefamilyhouse.org (for a place to shower, eat, and rest). The costs of traveling, paying for the room, paying tolls and gas, paying for parking, and having to have meals away from home has already begun; and it will continue for the foreseeable future (at which time we may also be paying for extended school days for my son, and may need to pay a petsitter, etc). Once a matching donor lung/lungs becomes available and she gets the transplant surgery - things will continue in this manner for an additional 10-12 weeks (and that is if all goes well). At whatever time she is released from the hospital, the transplant program requires that she stay at one of the transplant houses with family member present at all times (24hrs a day). We will likely be continuing to use the Gift of Life Transplant house, unless they are full (then there is another available, but that is more expensive). Following the surgery she will also have the added expense of anti-rejection medications, which are not all covered by insurance, but she will need them to be able to survive following the procedure.

We are asking for your help and support - so that we can continue to be here with her through this process and so that our family is not financially burdened by either the current expenses or those that will come following the transplant surgery. I am breaking down some of the reoccurring expenses so you are able to get a better picture of the situation. We may have to adjust our goal depending on how long this journey lasts, and what changes in the mean time. For now, we are taking things day to day. But we need help.

Gift of Life (per room - 2 will likely be needed when she is released to there following surgery): $40/night per room (see image in photos)

Daily Parking fees: $15-$21 depending on time spent (PER CAR Per day) (see image in photos)

Plus food, tolls, gas etc

We are pleading with you to stand with us in support of my mother, Ingrid, as she awaits a transplant that she desperately needs to save her life. She has helped so many lives - human and animal alike - please help give back to this amazing woman. Please donate what you can and share this with friends and family. Every donation helps and is greatly appreciated! We will update as her journey continues and we hope to see her life renewed through the blessing of a transplant
