Boozhoo, Hope nindizhinikaaz, ozaawaa-aanakwadokwe indigo Mashkiziibing nindoonjibaa migizi nindoodem. Hello my name is Hope, the spirits call me Yellow Cloud Woman I am from Bad River and I am eagle clan. I am enrolled in Midwives College of Utah Bachelors of Science in Midwifery program and am currently in the ‘Assistant Midwife’ phase of my education.
I work full time for the Bad River Tribe to provide for my 6 children, while being a full time college student, maintaining my apprenticeship and offering Indigenous Birth Services. I have (nearly) completed two full years of my midwifery schooling and am now entering into my clinical phase.
In order for me to finish my education and become a Wisconsin Licensed Midwife, it is crucial for me to be in attendance at my clinical learning site more often. I am an Indigenous student Midwife, I face disparities that I am hoping to help reduce for others, and I need your help.
I have been accepted as a student midwife at the Ashland Birth Center and they are requesting that I attend clinic days and births during this phase of my education. With your financial support, I can leave my current work position, continue my education and continue my path to becoming a Midwife. My time at the Ashland Birth Center will be spent learning midwifery skills and caring for pregnant and birthing families, attending online school and completing assignments, and putting my efforts into a more resilient and sovereign indigenous birth program.
I am asking for the help of the people. Please consider supporting me through my clinical phase. So Indigenous families, black families, and all families can have access to this crucial and sacred work.
The knowledge of my elders is an important part of my learning. 1/3 of the money raised will go to my Indigenous elder, doula and birth assistant, Penny Charette, to help provide teachings and ceremonies for the people in our care. My total fundraising goal would provide me with the opportunity to finish one full year of my clinical skills and include the important teachings of my elder.
Check out my website to see the work I am doing: https://www.indigenousbirthservices.com/ Through Wiiji-Nitaawiginaawasojig I offer a full spectrum of Indigenous services and teachings, from preconception through the first years of life. We provide a safe respected space that is needed for Indigenous individuals, families, and community to receive the care that is needed to heal and create new traditions
