Support Indigenous Artisans during COVID19
Donation protected
Please help us support Indigenous Wayuu and Embera Chami communities in Colombia during COVID19 crisis with access of food and water!
The Mami Watta Collections family is organising this fundraiser to send funds to different communities of Indigenous peoples who are really needing some support across Colombia.
Our social enterprise is linked to many different groups of families of First Nations artists who live from their art making. Unfortunately given the COVID19 crisis all business has stopped meaning no source of income for hundreds of families. We have decided to put together this fundraiser to support current fundraisers that are led by two Indigenous social leaders in Colombia who are currently working day and night supporting their people with elementary items for survival. We also want to send some support to our workers who are not receiving any orders of production.
Wayuuando Fund: led by Wayuu leader Ediana Montiel who is taking food to 5 different communities across the Guajira (North desert of Colombia) and in town of Uribia. Children who would usually receive food at schools (country on lockdown) are only eating once a day and have no access to drinking water. Elders are passing without any food in their stomach. The situation is very critical, as the Wayuu nation is one of the most impoverished and vulnerable communities due to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela (Wayuu nation extends across both countries and has had terrible armed violence).
more info on Wayuuando.
Asociación Jaipono: led by Edilson Tanigama Nacavera, leader of the association of artisans from the Embera Chami tribe living in Pereira. They are collecting support to provide families with non perishable foods and hygiene products during this state of emergency that his community is experiencing. more info of Asociación Jaipono.
The Tanigama Guasiruma family of Pereira three members who are pleading for any type of support. Besides our full time artisans in Bogota we also give seasonal work to this family who lives in Pereira and is completely out of work. Unfortunately we have stopped all production and commissioning of artisans.
The Wazorna Family are our full time artisans and are not getting any type of income as we have had to pause all production until the economy gets back to trading.
Indigenous communities are full of traditional knowledge and unique connections to the natural environment. For a social enterprise that promotes their creations it is imperative that artisans and their families are safe and well during this crisis.
Financial Transparency is key for ensuring 100% of the proceedings are used for the purposes described above. It is why we have asked Seraeah Wyles, Australian First Nations woman from the Girramay and Warrgamay tribes of the Rainforest and Saltwater countries from within the Girringun region of the North Queensland East Coast (South of Cairns), to be the independent monitor who will oversee all transactions including deposit receipts. More info about Seraeah
***Any small contribution would make a massive difference. These are times to come together. In unity we'll get through this. Please donate and help us support people who hold the knowledge of how to reconnect to the sacred balance of our earth***.
