Award winning Independent photojournalist Michael Nigro / Nigrotime was arrested in NYC June 22 covering the climate crisis action of #ExtinctionRebellion NYC Rebels repelled down from @Port Authority Bus Terminal, to demand the The New York Times #TellTheTruth about the #ClimateEmergency! #EarthtoMedia
After hours in jail, Michael's press pass, phone and camera equipment were held and no promise of getting them back. Sunday am, he was not able to follow the ICE deportation raids. We need journalists like Michael to give a voice to the voiceless.
Our first amendment rights are ALL violated when journalists are not able to do their job. Independent journalism is crucial since MSM is NOT covering issues of injustice including #ClimateCrisis, #Medicare4All #ElectionIntegrity #ImmigrationRights Media suppression is real. Police arresting journalists is a direct affront on democracy.
Please, if you are able, donate to Michael, as this is his livelihood. He has a family to support. Equipment is expensive.
Michael notes that his gear takes a huge beating. He has risked his livelihood and indeed his life by being on the front lines of issues of social justice. He was the first in line to be hit by the marauding car in Charlottesville, luckily only losing the camera hanging from his hip. Please help support!! Camera donations accepted too!
