While scrolling through TikTok, I came across a video of the sweet young woman pictured here—Imarah Aaliyah Bryan. Her story stopped me in my tracks. Imarah spent 50 days in jail after failing to appear in court for a petty theft incident involving $49 at a Target in Orlando.

Watching her video, it’s clear she’s well-spoken, kind-hearted, and full of joy. Imarah also lives with special needs, and her situation touched thousands across the TikTok community who shared the same question I had: How could someone like her be left in jail for so long over such a minor charge?

After some searching, I was able find Imarah‘s case and I knew I had to do something. We, as a community, need to help those like Imarah. Efforts are actively being made to find Imarah’s whereabouts to get her all the help she needs.
