Support Imani Lyons' Journey to Neurosurgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Imani Lyons, and I am thrilled to share that I will be attending Spelman College, majoring in Biochemistry on a Pre-Med track! This is the first big step on my journey to becoming a neurosurgeon a dream I've worked tirelessly toward throughout high school. I ask for your support as I embark on this exciting, challenging, and life-changing path.
Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the brain, how it works, how it breaks down, and how we can heal it. But I also know that too many people, especially in underserved communities, don’t get access to the neurological care they need. That’s why I’m not just studying to become a doctor, I’m preparing to become a trailblazer in neurosurgery who brings culturally competent, accessible care to the communities that need it most.
In high school, I poured my heart into learning, leadership, and service to lay the foundation for this future:
- Conducted cutting-edge scientific research on Parkinson’s disease and microgravity’s impact on the brain.
- Interned at New York University (NYU) as a summer research student.
- Served as President of Student Government, Drama Club, Student Congress, and Leading Ladies.
- Founded and led a Mental Wellness Club to promote open conversations about mental health.
- Earned multiple awards in Model UN, including Best Delegate at UC Berkeley and Outstanding Delegate at H. Frank Carey.
- Accumulated over 300+ hours of community service as Vice President of Key Club and earned a Silver Medal for Service.
- Spoke at Hempstead Town Hall and appeared as a guest youth speaker on “You're Our Unity” to advocate for youth empowerment and equity.
- Was honored with multiple recognitions: AP Capstone Research Certificate, College Board National Recognition, and a nomination to the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists.
Despite my accomplishments, the financial burden of college is still a major hurdle. Tuition, room and board, textbooks, lab materials, travel expenses these all add up quickly, and my family and I could use some help to make this dream a reality. My cost of attendance is 60k a year.
By donating, you're not just helping me attend Spelman, you’re investing in a future doctor, a community leader, and someone deeply committed to giving back.
Every dollar, every share, and every word of encouragement makes a difference. I promise to carry your support with me through every lecture, lab, and late-night study session as I work toward medical school and beyond.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. Let’s make this dream happen together.
With gratitude,
Imani Lyons
