My father succumbed to traumatic injuries he sustained from an accident at home during the height of Hurricane Milton and subsequent power outage. Nick put up a valiant fight, but his injuries were too much to overcome. His wife, Ildiko, of 53 years is now a widow and left to pick up the pieces of her own life to continue to live here in Flagler County, Florida, which both Ildi and Nick have called home for 36 years.
Their income was a limited fixed income prior to Nick's passing. With Nick's death, Ildiko will have her monthly income substantially decreased.
My parents defected and immigrated to the United States in 1971 from communist-blocked Eastern Europe. They landed at JFK Airport with only the clothes on their back. They had to defect in secrecy without any mention to other loved ones or family. My parents became naturalized U.S. citizens in 1976. They lived a true American Dream since. My parents from day one never solicited for a handout during their American journey.
Nick survived the entirety of World War II in war-torn Europe as a child and a young teenager. Nick and Ildiko both are survivors of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. My father endured the horrors of witnessing his father murdered by Soviet tank brigades. My father ultimately had to make an on-the-spot decision for field medics to render aid to his brother first, who was also wounded in the same tank onslaught.
To put it lightly, my parents are survivors. My mother is still coming to grips that the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the accident as the cause of death, with the accident being related to Hurricane Milton, so my father is now an official fatality associated with Hurricane Milton.
I made two promises to my mother as she continues to grieve and try to figure out her new world without the man that she deeply loved for over a half-century: 1.) Comfort and peace 2.) Financial stability for the rest of her life.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated so she can continue to live in her home without financial burdens or worries.
Thank you in advance!
Mike
