Hello, my name is Ilakiza Jackson, and I’m from Tanzania.
I’m an environmental advocate and youth leader passionate about protecting our planet and empowering communities through sustainability, education, and innovation.
I have recently been accepted to the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada, to study Climate Change and Adaptation - a program that will deepen my knowledge, leadership, and ability to create lasting change back home in Africa and beyond.
Why I Need Your Help
Coming from a humble background, my family and I have always valued education as a tool for change. However, the cost of studying abroad is far beyond what we can afford right now.
I am seeking 15,000 Canadian dollars to help cover my tuition fees and accommodation expenses so I can begin my studies in January 2026. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to this dream.
My Journey So Far
Growing up in Tanzania, I saw firsthand how climate change affects daily lives - from unpredictable weather patterns to food insecurity in rural communities. These experiences inspired me to take action.
I founded the THINK GREEN Environmental Club, a youth-led initiative that educates and mobilizes young people for environmental action. Through this platform, we’ve organized events like the December Environmental Festival, which has reached over 2,000 people and connected scientists, students, and entrepreneurs to share local climate solutions.
During my gap year, I dedicated myself fully to grassroots conservation work - reaching over 1,000 individuals, including children, youth, and women, through school outreach, clean-ups, and environmental education programs.
I’ve also had the honor of serving as a hundrED Youth Ambassador, and Africa for SDGs Fellow, linking local efforts with global environmental movements.
Why This Program Matters
The Climate Change and Adaptation program at UPEI is one of the few that blends science, community engagement, and policy. I believe this training will empower me to design real solutions for climate resilience - not just for Tanzania, but for the entire Global South.
By investing in my education, you’re not only helping one student -
you’re helping an entire network of young people working toward a greener, fairer world.
With gratitude,
Ilakiza Jackson
