Support Ila Geyer's Fight Against Aggressive Breast Cancer

Dear friends, family, and community,

My name is Kathy Geyer and today I am reaching out with a heartfelt request to support someone very special to me, my daughter-in-law Ila Geyer. She is a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend who began her fight against breast cancer, an awful disease, in July 2024. Ila is a teacher and directly before she was diagnosed, she accepted a new teaching position. Her diagnosis is Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 4 which has already spread to her lymph nodes. She has been told by her oncologist that it is an extremely aggressive high-grade cancer and more likely to spread and grow fast. It was a medical diagnosis that required immediate attention and treatment. We were, understandably, both shocked and devastated.

She began chemotherapy on August 7th, 2024, which continued for over 3 months. Her double mastectomy with reconstruction is scheduled for December 30th, 2024, and she may be looking at more chemotherapy and/or radiation following the surgery. Because of this, she will need to step back from work for a while.

Additionally, this month, she and her husband Carl will be traveling to MD Anderson in Houston. MD Anderson has the nation’s leading inflammatory breast cancer specialists and clinic. In Houston, she will receive a second opinion on her treatment plan and preventative precautions.

As many of you know, insurance does not cover all the bills, the financial burden of medical treatments, tests, and therapies. Even with private health insurance the costs are overwhelming. Also, insurance does not cover the travel necessary for these medical treatments, tests, therapies, and other related expenses including the upcoming trip to and from Houston and insurance does not help offset missed work. That’s why I’ve started this fundraising effort – to rally together and provide Ila and Carl with the financial support they need to be able to focus on what truly matters: Ila’s health and well-being. Ila is not only a fighter, but also a source of light and inspiration. Now it is our chance to give back and stand by her side during this challenging time.

Ever since the diagnosis, Ila and Carl have been nothing but positive and optimistic. They have been doing everything that they could for this journey of medical treatments, tests, therapies, surgery, stress, and recuperation. Unfortunately, Ila and Carl have had to take time off work to travel for these medical treatments, tests, and therapies.

To allow Ila and Carl to focus on Ila’s recovery, I want to offer them not only love and prayers but also the gift of emotional and financial support. Your donation will help ensure that they have one less thing to think about as they navigate this medical journey, which we know will be long.
