Many of you know former City of Miami mayoral candidate, Ijamyn Gray. He was born and raised in Coconut Grove and is known throughout the community for having overcome hardships, turning his life around and starting youth empowerment programs—including Encouraging Dreamers Breaking Barriers — an organization that secures City contracts to employ teenagers.

Ijamyn aspires to expand his business model to help teens throughout Miami, but he recently had an unexpected setback after a visit to the beach on Virginia Key left him with a life-threatening Vibrio vulnificus infection. He could lose his leg, and cannot get back to work until he is fully healed. Bills have been piling up, and he and his 14-year-old son are facing eviction.
