Ihsan’s Story: Muhammad Ihsan Nuliadi is the son of Muslim Indonesian immigrants. He is a 19-year-old rising Junior at Yale University majoring in Cognitive Science.
A few weeks ago, our friend and dear brother Ihsan went to the doctor for a bloody nose. That was it. A bloody nose.
Days later, he got a call to come back in for urgent blood work. By that evening, with his parents in town for what was supposed to be a normal visit, Ihsan was in the ER hearing two words none of us were ready for: acute leukemia.
If you know Ihsan, you know what kind of person this happened to. He's our muezzin. The voice we hear calling us to prayer. The brother who shows up for every halaqa, every Jummah, every late-night study session, every quiet moment when someone needs a friend and doesn't know how to ask.
In all the time we've known him, he has never asked for a single thing back.
Ihsan is now undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Alhamdulillah the prognosis is good and he's in strong hands. But the day-to-day has hit his family hard. His parents are driving back and forth to the hospital constantly. His father's company has been difficult about granting family medical leave (FMLA). Copays, parking, meals on long treatment days, the quiet costs of being sick in America add up faster than most people realize.
Ihsan would never have asked for this. We're asking on his behalf.
He has carried so many of us, without ever drawing attention to it. Now we want to carry him.
Every dollar goes directly to Ihsan and his family to help with medical costs, his parents' travel, meals during long hospital days, and the lost income while his family focuses on his recovery.
We are also entering the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, the most beloved days of the year to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days."
And he ﷺ said: "Whoever relieves a believer of a hardship of this world, Allah will relieve him of a hardship on the Day of Resurrection."
If you cannot give, please make duʿāʾ for him. Ask Allah for a complete shifa, a healing that leaves no illness behind. That, more than anything else, is what we are asking from you.
Allahumma ishfihi shifa'an la yughadiru saqama
JazakumAllahu khairan.
NOTE: Ihsan has given us his consent to hold this fundraiser on his behalf. All donations are going straight to his family.
