Hi, I’m reaching out for support for our dad, Ian.

In January 2026, Ian suffered a major stroke that has completely changed his life—and ours. He now lives with aphasia, which means he is unable to speak beyond a few simple words and is unable to write. While his mind is still very much there, the ability to communicate has been taken from him, which has been incredibly difficult for someone who has always been so social, active, and full of life.

Ian is the kind of person who lights up a room. He has always loved being around people—through his career in sales, helping others, and most importantly through his family. He is a devoted husband to Michelle, a proud father to five children, and a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren. He also adores his dog, Daisy.

Before his stroke, Ian lived an active and vibrant life. He loved walking, playing golf, gardening, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. He had a passion for travel and spent time overseas, even speaking French. Communication was at the heart of everything he did—and now, that is what he has lost.

On top of this, the stroke has also taken the use of his dominant right hand. He is now learning to navigate life using his left hand—his “lucky fin”—showing incredible resilience in the face of such a life-changing event.

We have been given hope through an Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme (ICAP) in London the UK. This is a specialised, high-intensity speech and language therapy program designed to help people regain communication skills after stroke. These programs are considered a gold standard in aphasia recovery and have the potential to make a life-changing difference.

Our goal is simple: to give Ian the best possible chance to find his voice again, reconnect with the people he loves, and regain some independence.

Unfortunately, the cost of the program, is significant, and it’s beyond what we can manage alone.
