Support "I love you" after the Sapelo Island dock collapse.
Donation protected
By now, most of the country is aware of the ferry dock collapse that took place at Sapelo Island over the weekend. Seven people tragically lost their lives and dozens more were hurt. We all need to pray for these families. A day of celebration and remembrance turned into tragedy, and everyone there that day will forever be changed.
Bertha McKnight is one of the people that fell into the water but was able to be rescued. She was there Saturday to help celebrate Cultural Day and take part in a ritual many in southeast Georgia are familiar with—the Gullah-Geechee Ring Shouters. Here is a link to learn more about this group and the influence they have on the people they are remembering when they shout.
Bertha's influence as a Ring Shouter doesn't stop there. She currently works in the cafeteria at Needwood Middle School in Glynn County as a lunch helper. She prepares the salads every day for the teachers and students to feed their stomachs, but what she does quietly feeds their souls. Bertha says to everyone that she encounters, "I love you." She doesn't expect anything in return. She wants everyone to know that they are loved. People don't hear it enough, but Bertha is doing her part to make sure everyone at this school hears the message. Kids at school know her as the 'I love you lady.'
Bertha McKnight, 80 years young, needs this community's help. She is currently in the hospital as this campaign is being launched. Her leg and back injuries are concerning. We are launching this campaign to get Bertha's home and car paid off so she has a place to rest long term. Her medical bills and loss of income are of great concern. Bertha should not be working in a school cafeteria but rather shouting and singing and telling people they are loved. Help us reach the goal of paying off her house so she can tell people they are loved. Please spread this message because Bertha loves to spread His message.
