Support 'I hope we never Land' a new dance work
Donation protected
I hope we never Land is a dance work choreographed by Emma Morris starring Aryanna Allen, Maia Charanis, and Meg Gourley. Through the lens of nature, this work will explore how our past selves, our memories, and the stories that we surround ourselves by impact our present. Nostalgic music and personal essays are woven together to create a world where time becomes blurred and reality is suspect. In western society, childhood is often filled with nature: recess, sports practices, neighborhood kids riding bikes together through the streets. As we age, there becomes a separation. We see the leaves change, the tides shift, forests disappear. Adult relationships to nature then become restricted to escapism- the dream world of vacation and weekends.
Using complex partnering, physical phrase work, improvisation scores, and spoken word, the work will total between 45-60 minutes. Motifs of the ocean, space, and trees will anchor each section in either the nature-filled past or the industrial present. The work will also feature set design by Emma Morris crafted out of recycled and reclaimed materials.
I hope we never Land will feature four dancers, each abstractly represent one facet of time. 1) The past/memory. 2) The present/reality. 3) The future/dreams. 4) The in between/stories.
When do our memories become stories? When do dreams become the present?
Your donation will go towards supporting the artists involved in this project: Aryanna Allen, Maia Charanis, Meg Gourley, and Emma Morris. Funds will allow the artists to be paid fairly for their rehearsal time and creative input. In addition, funds will assist in production costs associated in presenting I hope we never Land in a theater in Fall 2024. Donations will assist in covering theater rental, lighting design, costumes, and stage support during the performance.
This project is thankful for the support of the Hambidge Center for Arts and Cultural Sciences as well as the continued support of Decatur School of Ballet.
