Hi, my name is Jina and I started a GoFundMe page for my mom. My mom got diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer on January 26, 2023. After her diagnosis, we met numerous amount of oncologists and surgeons. The oncologist at UVA hospital and Alan B Pearson Cancer Center stated that she would have 6 months-1 year to live if she didn't start treatment right away. However, with treatment and surgery- the survival rate would change to 60-70%.
Esophageal Cancer is known as one of the most difficult cancers to beat because it makes it difficult for the patient to eat or swallow any food. Not only is the treatment brutal but the surgery recovery is as challenging. They will remove a part of the esophagus and move the stomach up to the esophagus. Many patients with esophageal cancer will be hospitalized for over a week to two after surgery.
My mom's current treatment plan is chemotherapy once a week for 5 weeks straight and radiation 5 times a week for 28 sessions. On March 9th, she will also go into surgery to get a feeding tube placed. The oncologist stated that it will be difficult for her to swallow or eat after week 3 of treatments so a feeding tube is a must.
After chemo and radiation are done, she will get a PET scan in 2 weeks to make sure that the tumor shrunk so she can get surgery. With treatments, tests, procedures, surgeries, medications, and examinations, the medical bill is starting to grow significantly.
I started this GoFundMe page to help pay for the medical bills. My mom is one of the strongest women I know. She has worked numerous jobs to take care of the family and did any job possible. Growing up as an only child, my mom became my absolute best friend in the whole world and still is. I cannot imagine what life would be like without her continuous support and love. She has worked so hard to take care of me and make sure that I could live the best life possible. This time around, I want to do everything I can to help my mom.
Any donation no matter how small or large would be greatly appreciated. Prayers are also greatly appreciated as well. Any remaining money will be donated to other cancer patients that are financially struggling.
We are forever thankful for the community of friends and family members who have been pouring into us and praying over us as we walk through this difficult journey. ❤️
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
