Support Hyacinth's Transition Journey

Hi! My name is Hyacinth Bellerose and I am a transgender woman in the midst of beginning my medical transition. As a community organizer and mental health programmer, I have seen the massive impact that medical transition has had on my friends and community members. I have supported many trans people through their transition process, and have celebrated their victories and euphoria with them.

Now that it's my turn, I am overwhelmed with excitement, but I’m also struggling. The financial pressure of transition has made my bipolar disorder and gender dysphoria worse, and after a long struggle, I have decided to reach out to my community for help. I honestly feel uncomfortable asking for help. Being so open about my transition process feels raw and risky and on top of the fact that asking for money is incredibly difficult for me. But I want to lean into the discomfort and bring my community with me as I enter this next phase of my life.

Dream of Motherhood

My wife Rachel and I have dreamed of being parents since we were teenagers (literally we talked about naming our kids together when we were 19). We have waited so long for the right time to begin pursuing parenthood, and as beautiful things so often tend to coalesce, we felt ready right after I began my transition process. This is exciting because I get to enter parenthood as a mother and share the mothering process with my partner. It is also a challenge because feminizing hormones make having children incredibly difficult.

In anticipation of this, Rachel and I have decided to pursue fertility preservation, so that we can still achieve our dreams of being mothers together, while I can begin my medical transition and feel good in my body for the first time since I was a kid. The cost for fertility preservation and procedures is unfortunately prohibitive, coming in at over $3000 for the amount that we need for our family dreams. This is why we have decided to reach out for help.
