We are pleased to share that four Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School students--11th graders Alex Beck, Stella Shipman, Ivy Smith, and Theo Bergquist—have been invited to participate in the Bridges to Malawi Medical Mission Trip. They will travel with Dr. Megan Reyes-Wangh, a school parent who has worked with the organization for five years, and will spend two weeks volunteering in a rural medical clinic.

Bridges to Malawi is a remarkable nonprofit supporting village communities through medical care, food security programs, and educational initiatives. By working alongside physicians, local leaders, and the clinic staff—and by living with village families—our students will experience sustainable humanitarian work firsthand and return with a deeper sense of global citizenship and purpose.

At a time when many young people feel overwhelmed or disconnected, this practicum offers something vital: the chance to step into the wider world, be of service, and discover that their efforts can truly help others.

Your support helps cover the students’ travel and homestay costs (approximately $2,500 per student) and will also strengthen the clinic and community programs that serve thousands each year. We hope to contribute $5,000 directly to the clinic.

Every donation helps lay the foundation for future HVS students to take part in this transformative work. Our goal is to support these four pilot students, provide meaningful aid to the community in Kasungu District, and seed the future of a long-term partnership. Any additional funds raised will go directly to Bridges to Malawi’s ongoing medical and humanitarian efforts.
