Subject: Eagle Scout Project Donation Request – Tiger Hiding Boxes for Black Pine

My name is Huston Smith III, and I am a member of Scouting America (Boy Scouts of America) Troop 302 in the Fort Wayne/Roanoke area. I am currently planning my Eagle Scout Project in partnership with Black Pine Animal Sanctuary.

For my project, I have designed and will be building five tiger hiding boxes, each measuring 6 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 5 feet tall. These structures will provide the sanctuary’s tigers with additional enrichment and shelter, improving their comfort and well-being.

The boxes will be constructed primarily of 2x6 and 4x4 lumber, and I am seeking monetary donations to help cover the cost of materials and supplies. Any contribution you can make toward this project—large or small—will make a meaningful difference and will be greatly appreciated.

I have also spent time volunteering at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, where I learned firsthand about their dedication to providing a safe, enriching environment for animals retired from exhibition, performance, and private ownership. This experience inspired me to design a project that directly benefits the tigers in their care.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is the highest achievement in Scouting. Fewer than 6% of Scouts achieve this rank. To become an Eagle Scout, a Scout must:

Progress through six prior ranks (Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life).

Earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, including required ones in areas such as leadership, citizenship, first aid, personal management, and environmental science.

Hold leadership positions within their troop and demonstrate the ability to guide and inspire others.

Plan, organize, and lead a significant service project that benefits a non-Scouting organization — such as my project for Black Pine Animal Sanctuary.

Complete a thorough review process demonstrating personal growth, responsibility, and adherence to the Scout Oath and Law.
