As Hawaiʻi’s government loosens its restrictions on community gathering, we are so excited to come together in-person for this year’s University of Hawaiʻi Thompson School of Social Work convocation.* The Department of Social Work (DSW) Convocation and Kīhei ceremony are longstanding traditions that provide an opportunity for graduates to celebrate and reflect alongside their community of peers, family and friends, and faculty and staff. These events signify a transitional moment for graduates as they deepen their commitment to the social work profession and ready themselves to apply their learning outside the classroom and within their communities.

 

Each year, the undergraduate and graduate DSW student organizations, Bachelor of Social Work Organization (BSWO) and Hui Kākoʻo: DSW Graduate Student Organization, respectively, fundraise for Convocation and the Kīhei ceremonies. When you donate to this GoFundMe, you may either specify what you would like your donation to be used toward or contribute to the general costs of the events.

Options for donations include:
*Please write-in any specifications when you donate and please read the instructions on how to specify what costs you are donating to. 

 

1. Kīhei Student Sponsorship - supports students in purchasing kīhei supplies such as cloth, kāpala, etc. (you may donate to a specific student or to the group generally; each kit costs students ~$100). *Please include the  FULL name of the student you are sponsoring. 

2. Venue costs - decorations, IT livestreaming, flowers, chair rentals, Covid-19 mitigation supplies, etc.

3. General student or faculty gifts

HOW TO ADD A COMMENT WITH YOUR DONATION:
-Once you have processed your payment, you will be directed to a page that suggests you share the fundraiser with others via Facebook, Twitter, Email, WhatsApp, or Text. Under that section there is a section that says "Finished Sharing? Continue" Please click on Continue. 
-Please add which of the four options above you are donating to. If there is no specification, BSWO and Hui Kakoʻo will decide where to allocate your donation. 

 

Furthermore, funds not used for this year’s convocation and Kīhei costs will go to BSWO and Hui Kākoʻo for future years’ student programming and events. Thank you for making this year’s events special. We couldn’t do this without you. MAHALO!
