Help Hugo Get Life-Saving Treatment in the United States
UPDATE!
We did it! We were able to get Hugo to the states and get him the care he desperately needs! But Hugo still needs your help.
With your incredible generosity we were able to repay Hugo’s brother, Javier, for the Air Ambulance and his travel. Expenses that went well over 52k. He maxed out all his credit cards in order to accomplish this feat, and we are forever grateful for his determination and lighting fast response. Hugo has received life saving care, had a Defibrulator/ pace maker installed, and will soon be heading to his mother Annabelle Santos’s home in Greenville SC for his long road to recovery.
Which leads us to the next steps in the journey. Hugo will now be out of work for at least the next 3-5 months, and he and Gabby could still use support.
If you can, please share this far and wide. If you can, please donate again. You cannot believe how every little bit helps.
The outpouring of love, prayers, and generous donations literally saved Hugo’s life. Words cannot express how appreciative Hugo and his family are for all of your support. Please reach out to Hugo and Gabby for continued support, kind wishes, or questions.
We thank you all so much. Let’s keep supporting this incredible individual in whichever way you can. We truly love him and thank you all for everything you have done.
Introduction:
We are reaching out to our family, friends, and community with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits. My closest friend, Hugo Cantellops, a lifelong veteran in the horse industry as a trainer, dealer and rider, and a beloved husband, father, and friend, is facing an unimaginable challenge. Hugo recently suffered several heart attacks that requires immediate, life-saving intervention. Unfortunately, the treatment he needs is not readily available in Costa Rica, where there is a five-year waitlist with low survival rates. The best chance for Hugo’s survival is to be medically evacuated to the United States, where he can receive the urgent care he needs.
The Situation:
After consulting with his cardiologist, it has become clear that Hugo will require either a heart transplant or Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). Given the critical nature of his condition, his doctor has recommended that these procedures be done in the United States, where his condition meets the criteria for immediate care. If Hugo does not receive this treatment soon, his chances of survival here are sadly very slim.
Costs and Immediate Needs:
The cost of the air ambulance to evacuate Hugo to the United States is $40,000. In addition, we need to cover accommodation costs for Hugo’s wife and mom, who will be staying close by to support him during this time. The estimated total for these immediate needs is $45,000. We are hopeful that Medicaid will cover the rest of Hugo’s medical expenses once he arrives in the U.S., but the upfront costs are substantial, and we need your help to make this possible.
How You Can Help:
Please consider making a donation to help cover the costs of Hugo’s air evacuation, medical treatment, and any associated expenses. No amount is too small, and every contribution will bring Hugo closer to the care he desperately needs. Additionally, we ask for your continued prayers and positive thoughts. Hugo is a special person who has touched so many lives, and we believe that with your help, he can continue to live a beautiful life filled with love and joy.
Thank You:
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your generosity, prayers, and support. Together, we can give Hugo the chance to recover and return home to the people who love him most.
