Hello! My name is Hugo Romero, and I am attending the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University for my MM in flute performance. I have always felt so powerful to be connected with others through making music because of the stories, experiences, and emotions felt by the musicians and audiences all around. This is what I'm striving to share as I begin my career as a performer. Attending an institution that is at the caliber of Peabody will help me achieve this by refining my skills and provide a level of training that I have yet to encounter.
During my time at PSU, I won concerto competitions including the 2024 Portland State University Concerto Competition, and the 2025 Grande Ronde Concerto + Aria Competition. These were goals that I always wanted to achieve! During this time, I also served as the third flute and piccolo player for the Sunnyside Symphony, as well as the principal flute of the Portland State University Orchestra and Wind Symphony. Recently, I had the privilege of performing with the Credo Festival Orchestra in July 2025 in Chicago at Symphony Hall, and the Montana Youth Symphony Gala Concert under the baton of Sir Donald Runnicles.
While I did receive a scholarship and petitioned to increase the award amount in addition to receiving work study. There is still a balance of $7,662 that I'm expected to pay out of pocket for the academic year that I need some help with.
There are monthly payments of $1,182 due the 15th of the month for Oct.-Dec. The spring semester installment of $2,931 is due in January of 2026 (I may divide this total into four (4) smaller payments of $732 for months January-April).
*Fall semester cost more because there's a class with a fee of $1,800. Spring term will not have this class fee.
