Hi. I'm Hugh. You probably already know that.
The long and short of it is: after many years of being in my twenties, I'm now in my 30s and I'm going to graduate school.
Earlier this year I was accepted to UCLA's school of architecture. And they gave me, a degenerate potter and bartender with no business going to such a program, a nice chunk of change. And because that happened I said yes. I start this September.
Apparently, though, scholarship only extends as far as tuition. There's still all the other things (computer, books, maybe a shirt that doesn't have holes in it), including the cost of moving to LA, the most affordable city in the US**, and finding an apartment.
It's funny, but I've waited to pursue this for so long. And I think that's because the crazy cost of education has always struck me as...well, terrifying. And completely out of reach. Plus that whole feeling of being an imposter, bla bla bla.
I guess it’s happening now.
So, I'm going to graduate school! I still can’t believe it’s happening. Later than expected, perhaps, but I like to remind myself: you are exactly where you need to be. If you wish to contribute to this exciting and terrifying leg of the journey, well I'd just be over the moon.
**that's a lie
