The Playmakers Repertory Company wasn’t just a children’s theatre troupe — it was a family, a training ground, and a creative home for young Black artists aged 7 to 19. Born from the vision and workshops of the Howard University Children’s Theatre (HUCT), we were more than performers. We were dreamers, builders, and storytellers committed to excellence, discipline, and the transformative power of the arts. Now, it’s time to reconnect — not just to reminisce, but to reignite. We’re organizing a Playmakers Reunion to bring our community back together — and to spark a bold, future-facing vision: A Playmakers Endowment to fund our mission long into the future. A Scholarship to support the next generation of young Black artists. A Creative Incubation Retreat, where young talent can grow, heal, and create in a nurturing, historically-rooted space.
This GoFundMe is the first step — to gather, to celebrate, and to build something lasting. Whether you were on stage, behind the scenes, or cheering from the audience, your support helps plant the seeds for a legacy that lives on.
Let’s honor where we’ve been — and invest in where we’re going.
We are the storytellers. We are the Playmakers.
"We believed that theatre should be central to the lives of all young people, for it affords them the opportunity to express themselves creatively and allows them to grow and develop skill that can help them in all aspects of their lives," emphasized Founding Director Dr. Kelsey E. Collie. "If all the world’s a stage, then let the children of the world take the spotlight!"
