Support Howard's Fight for Life

If anything in this world could make me swallow my pride and ask for help, it’s my best boy Howard. Anyone who knows me, knows that Howard holds the key to my heart. I have 7 animals, and Howard was my very first “own” pet. He is my heart dog and best friend. He has been through so much with me, many losses and hard times, and is one of my biggest comforts in this world. He is 10 years old, but has always acted no older than a 2 year old puppy with his lust for life, love and play. Unfortunately, December of last year, we began our battle fighting Howard’s MCT cancer. At the time we had no idea how serious this would actually become. We had his first surgery a week before Christmas to remove the tumor. Usually, once removed, 98% of dogs are cured and do not have a reoccurrence. Howard has always been special though, so naturally he was in that 2 percent of pups whose battle didn’t end there. His second surgery was in March to remove the new, larger, higher grade tumor. Surgery recovery was very difficult both times due to the horrible location of the MCT. After the second surgery, our vet referred us to an oncologist. The thought of seeking a cancer doctor for my best friend was something I never expected to have to go through with my perfect pup. But I knew I had to try anything to ensure his best quality of life, especially with his strong will and spirit. His first visit was one month ago and he began chemo. The idea was to keep the cancer from coming back, but that day the doctor also found a tumor under his armpit, so large we thought it was muscle this entire time, nearby the location of this original. After a false initial test, that tumor later tested positive for MCT cells. This has affected his mobility greatly, due to the location. He has been limping for a couple weeks and we now have to take a more
aggressive approach to this tumor and hope it can shrink and get his mobility back. Howard’s quality of life is absolutely the number one priority, and we are taking every measure to ensure this happens. Howard is not Howard if he isn’t running amuck and playing like a wild man. He is not “old” physically
or mentally, and we have to give him a fighting chance. Since December we have spent thousands on Howard’s surgeries and vet bills, and knowing what we are dealing with now, thousands more are to come. I know times are hard financially for everyone right now, but anything anyone can contribute would be appreciated more than you’ll ever know. If you made it to the end, thank you. He is so much more than a dog to me, Jared and Howard’s brothers and sisters. ❤️
Sincerely,
Savanna
