Help Send Howard Law BLSA to Nationals
The Black Law Students Association at Howard University School of Law is raising funds to support student participation in the National Black Law Students Association Mock Trial Competition and the NBLSA National Convention.
These opportunities give students hands-on trial experience, national exposure, and access to professional networks that prepare future public defenders, civil rights attorneys, and movement lawyers to advocate effectively in courtrooms and communities.
Through mock trial and national programming, students build real litigation skills, including:
• Witness examination and cross-examination
• Evidentiary objections and trial strategy
• Oral advocacy and courtroom professionalism
• Teamwork, leadership, and ethical advocacy
Competing nationally also allows Howard Law students to represent the university with excellence and strengthen its national presence within NBLSA.
Why We Need Support
Because our team is not part of the school’s official Trial Advocacy Team, Howard University School of Law bylaws restrict the school from funding our participation in these competitions and related travel. As a result, we must rely entirely on outside resources to make this opportunity accessible to our students.
Without community support, many students would be unable to participate due to the high cost of travel, lodging, and competition expenses. We are committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented and dedicated students from accessing high-impact advocacy training and national professional development.
We are seeking to raise approximately $11,000 to cover:
• Travel from Washington, DC to Philadelphia for the regional competition
• Lodging from February 25–March 1
• Local transportation and team logistics
• If the team advances, travel to Portland, Oregon for the national competition
• If the team does not advance, sending students to the NBLSA National Convention for professional development and networking
No matter the outcome of the regional competition, all funds raised will directly support student access to meaningful advocacy training and national leadership opportunities.
Your Impact
Your support helps:
• Remove financial barriers to high-impact legal training
• Invest in the next generation of Black lawyers and public interest advocates
• Strengthen Howard Law’s national visibility and legacy
• Advance justice-centered legal education rooted in service and community
Every contribution makes a difference. Thank you for supporting our students and helping build the future of Black legal leadership.
