The Story of House of Kitty: From Feral Rescues to Bright Futures

House of Kitty began with a simple truth — that every cat deserves safety, love, and a chance to find their forever home. We function out of our small home in Southwest Virginia as two women effort to save a litter of kittens has grown into a warm, bustling foster program where scared, hungry, and forgotten cats are given a second chance.

We’ve taken in the ones no one else would — feral kittens, abandoned mothers, and orphaned babies who needed bottle feeding every two hours. We’ve comforted them through illness, socialized them with care and patience, and watched them transform from frightened strays into affectionate, adoptable companions.

But now, we’re at a turning point.

House of Kitty has the opportunity to partner with PetSmart’s Adoption Center — a partnership that could change everything. Through this program, our kittens and cats could be seen by hundreds of potential adopters each week, giving them the exposure they need to find loving homes faster.

However, there’s one big obstacle standing in our way:

PetSmart requires all participating rescues to be registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The application fee is $275 — a small number that could mean the world to dozens of cats waiting for homes. Every dollar raised will go directly toward this step, allowing us to expand our reach, open doors to grant funding, and provide care and medical attention to even more cats in need.

Becoming a 501(c)(3) isn’t just paperwork. It’s a promise — that House of Kitty will keep growing, rescuing, and advocating for the voiceless. It’s a step toward sustainability, visibility, and legitimacy in the animal rescue community.
