Hot Sweat Statement:
Hot Sweat is an exhibition idea that formed when Holly Nordeck and Cherish Marquez were at a gallery drinking two gallery sanctioned beers, and started joking about the seriousness of the art world, hot dogs, and sex toys. Imagine walking down the street on a summer day, you’re trying to wear the least amount of clothes because it's hot and you’re sweaty, there is the smell of baking garbage in the air, and you're on your way to a sexy BBQ party, that's Hot Sweat!.
Hot Sweat explores absurdity, playfulness, camp, and the erotism that often is encapsulated through popular notions and interpretations of the word “sweat”. Additionally, the show aims to combat the serious nature of the institution by highlighting artists and art who tow the line between high and low art. Through multi-disciplinary work, this show is an amalgamation of artists challenged to interpret the phrase “Hot Sweat”.
About the event:
Last year in August 2024 Hot Sweat hosted an event at the Evans School that featured 12 artists from the Denver art community. We provided free hot dogs, beverages, a curated DJ, and costume contest. Our event was featured in Westword and had 50+ attendees.
This year we plan on doing something BIG! Bell Projects will be hosting the next iteration of Hot Sweat, Hot Sweat 2.0. This will be a three day event from August 8th 2025 to August 10th 2025.
Hot Sweat is passionate about connecting and supporting the Colorado creative community through unconventional yet intentional curation. We do this because we see the value in saturating Denver’s art market with new and diverse artists and understand the need to fill the gaps in programming and curation in Colorado.
