22-year-old Horacio Arroyo was riding his bike near 58th and Western in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood on April 17th, 2026 when he was struck from behind by a speeding SUV. The impact was so severe that the vehicle lost control, crashed into a fire hydrant, slammed into nearby property, and rolled over.
Horacio suffered major trauma to one side of his body and has already undergone multiple surgeries in an effort to save muscle and limb function. His road to recovery will be long, painful, and uncertain—but Horacio is determined and fighting every single day.
Bikes have always been Horacio’s passion. Building and riding them gave him joy, freedom, and purpose. Now that passion—and possibly his ability to ride—has been taken by a careless driver.
The financial toll of emergency care, multiple surgeries, intensive rehabilitation, and time away from work is overwhelming for him and his family. Every donation will directly support Horacio’s medical expenses and help his family stay strong during this incredibly difficult time.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. You can also watch the news coverage linked here to see the full severity of the crash.
Your support, prayers, and kindness mean more than words can express.
Let’s come together to help Horacio heal and show him and his family they are not alone.
