Support Home Care for Thomas
Donation protected
My dad, Thomas, has always been the kind of person who gets along with everyone. He’s never had a filter, and his honesty and humor have made him a memorable presence in every room. He’s special to me simply because he’s my dad, and he’s always been there for our family in his own unique way.
A few weeks ago, Thomas suffered a stroke caused by a disease called Cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Since then, his health has changed dramatically. He now needs help with daily activities like bathing and remembering things, and he’s at risk for frequent falls. My mom has become his full-time caretaker on top of working her own full-time job, and the stress has been overwhelming for all of us. My brother and I have found ourselves in difficult situations, often being the ones to find him after a fall or stroke, and we worry constantly about our mom’s well-being.
We’re hoping to bring in a home health care nurse several days a week to help care for Thomas. This support would allow my mom to go to work without the constant fear of my dad being alone and at risk. It would give her peace of mind and a chance to breathe, knowing that Thomas is safe. Despite his severe dementia, some of my favorite memories with my dad are when we play old music and sing together—music seems to bring him back, even if just for a moment. Any support will help us provide the care he needs and give our family some much-needed relief.
