On Friday, a tornado tore through Belton and completely changed my friend’s life in a matter of minutes.
Her home was hit hard—there is literally a truck through her front door and a trailer through her garage. The roof is gone, windows are shattered, and nearly everything inside has been turned upside down. Right now, it’s hard for her to even sort through what’s left, let alone figure out what comes next.
The most important thing is this: Hollie, her fiancé Chijioke, and their dog are all safe. And for that, we are incredibly grateful.
She is not only a friend of mine—she is also my son’s kindergarten teacher. Every single day, Hollie shows up for her students with patience, kindness, and a smile… even now, in the middle of one of the hardest moments of her life. While she is physically and emotionally exhausted, she is still putting on a brave face for her kids and giving them the love and stability they rely on.
But behind that strength is a very real situation.
Right now, Hollie and Chijioke are without a home. Because they rent, they are at the mercy of timelines outside their control, with no clear answer on when—or if—they’ll be able to return. In the meantime, they’re dealing with the emotional toll of the storm, the exhaustion of navigating the aftermath, and the very real financial burden of being displaced.
There are so many unexpected expenses in situations like this—temporary housing, replacing essential items, storage, food, transportation, and the countless little things you don’t think about until they’re suddenly gone.
She shared this earlier today:
“Today was a whirlwind (pun intended, gotta laugh through the pain)! It’s so tough to even figure out what to do since we don’t have a place to move all of our items. I honestly don’t even know what we own right now since everything was just everywhere ”
If you know Hollie, that’s exactly who she is—grateful, humble, and thinking of others even in the middle of her own crisis.
That’s exactly why we’re asking for help.
Let’s take one thing off her plate. Let’s make sure that while she’s physically and emotionally exhausted, she doesn’t have to be financially overwhelmed too.
If you’re able to give, any amount will make a difference. If you can’t, sharing this page means just as much.
Thank you for supporting Hollie and Chijioke as they start to rebuild ❤️
