Support Hillary Maxwell After the Loss of our Friend Scott

"Support for Hillary Shaffer Maxwell Following the Loss of our great friend, and the love of her life, Scott Maxwell"

On the morning of March 6th, our community lost a truly "great one." Scott Maxwell passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack at just 55 years old.

Scott and Hillary shared a rare and beautiful partnership, they were each other’s person and best friends who fit perfectly together. Along with Hillary’s parents, Evelyn and Bill, they were a devoted family unit woven into the fabric of Sierra Madre through the Rose Float Association and the Sierra Madre Events Committee - and time spent at The Buc.

The Need for Community to Step In - Scott was a man of laughter and adventure, but his passing comes during a difficult time. Having been laid off, Scott was also without life insurance.
Hillary is now facing the unimaginable heartbreak of losing her husband while simultaneously navigating the financial weight he once shared.

We are raising funds to cover Scott’s funeral and memorial, as well as the ongoing life expenses Hillary now faces alone. Our goal is to give her the space to grieve without the immediate burden of financial survival.

Honoring a Life of Connection - Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Hillary; his mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Bill Shaffer; his Uncle Phil and Aunt Barbara Maxwell; and his Uncle Alan and Aunt Paula Curtiss. He is now with his parents, Barry and Suellen Maxwell.

Scott will be deeply missed by our village of volunteers and all who he touched throughout his life: from his formative years in Woodbury, CT, and his life-changing year traveling with Up With People, to the cherished connections he made in Charlotte, NC, and California. He was an avid world traveler, loved music & Scott left a mark on every life he touched along the way.

In Hillary’s Words:
“I am at a loss for adequate words... My husband, Scott Maxwell, passed away... Everyone who knew Scott loved him. We fit perfectly together. He was my person. I know he’s with his parents now, but damn it, I wanted him longer.”
How You Can Help Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page so others who knew and loved Scott can support Hillary during this incredibly difficult time.
