Help the Cardboard Conductors Get to Globals!

We are the Cardboard Conductor team that attend Highland Catholic School, and we’re thrilled to share that we’ve qualified for the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri!

Our challenge, called the High Wire Challenge, required us to design and build a machine that could carry weighted objects up an inclined rope—all while staying within a strict weight limit. But that’s not all! We also had to create a theatrical performance that seamlessly incorporated the operation of our machine. It’s been an amazing journey combining STEM, storytelling, and creativity.

Destination Imagination is a unique program because it’s 100% kid-driven. Coaches and adults are only there to teach us how to safely use tools—we do all the designing, building, and problem-solving ourselves. It's all about learning through doing, and it’s given us a ton of confidence and skills we’ll carry with us for years to come.

We’re fundraising to help cover the cost of attending Globals after placing 2nd in the Minnesota State Finals. We came heartbreakingly close to first—our machine stopped just one inch short of the finish line at maximum weight and maximum elevation. It was an incredible performance, and now we have a chance to show the world what we can do on an even bigger stage!
