Support Our High School Mountain Biking
My name is Shawn McAfee. I'm the organizer of the DFW Series mountain bike events here in the Dallas area. I have entered into the 2021 Race Across Texas (RAT1000) and I want to help raise funding for our local North Texas NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) high school mountain bike team.
The NTX NICA program exists to give all kids a place to belong. Their program has teams for all age groups who compete at a state level. No matter the background the guys at NTX NICA will help find that child a bike and help them find their place. For the DFW Series, The NTX NICA program has been a fundamental part of the success that we have seen this year. Their partnership has helped to make the DFW Series races a wonderfully entertaining and family friendly event. Team director Rick McGrath and Coach Mike Bannister share MC and DJ duties on race day.
My goal is to help them generate some additional awareness of their programs for the middle school and high school students. By donating to this cause it will help the team purchase new sound equipment, tents and additional support for their upcoming Winter and Spring race season. The sound equipment is used for the DFW Summer Series and DFW Winter Series and helps to continue to provide engagement with racers and fans from across the metroplex.
The goal is to help raise $2500 from our local community to help provide them with the equipment needed. At present there are roughly 60 students enrolled in the NICA programs in North Texas. The 2013 outlook for the team is 100 students.
All donations go direct to the team for their use.
