Giving Omar the Dream to Pursue Higher Education In Canada

Meet Omar Firwana, a remarkable young man with an unshakable dream—to become an engineer and one day rebuild Gaza.

Omar, along with his mother, three siblings, and grandmother, escaped Gaza last year and found safety in Oman. Tragically, his father was left behind in Gaza. Despite losing his home, community, country, and many loved ones, Omar remained determined and excelled in his studies, maintaining an outstanding 95% average across all subjects.

Omar’s dedication to education paid off when he initially received a full 4-year scholarship to the University of Sharjah for a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. This opportunity felt like a miracle—until less than a month later, he received a devastating email from the university stating that his admission was canceled due to “limited space,” with no further explanation or follow-up.

Just when hope seemed lost, God opened another door. Omar was accepted into the University of Alberta in Canada with a scholarship covering all academic expenses. However, the scholarship does not include housing or living costs, and due to his visa type, Omar will not be able to work while studying.
