Dear Friends and Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is John Myers, and I have the honor of serving as the President of the Loudoun Career Firefighters Association. Today, I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for your support in a deeply meaningful initiative we are undertaking in partnership with Hero Dogs Inc. and Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.
In less than three weeks we are excited to be welcoming home Hero Dog Birdie, Loudoun County’s first facility dog, into our community. This initiative holds special significance as we reflect on the tragic event that occurred on February 16th, when Loudoun County experienced a line-of-duty death and saw 12 other individuals injured, including two critically requiring extensive treatment at the Washington DC Medstar burn unit.
During the aftermath of this tragedy, we were fortunate to receive support from 22 K9s and their handlers from across Virginia and Maryland. These remarkable dogs offered unparalleled comfort and solace to our first responders, helping them navigate through their grief and recover from both physical and emotional wounds. Their presence was a beacon of hope, addressing both visible and invisible scars.
As we look to the future, Hero Dog Birdie will become a vital member of our PEER support team. Birdie will accompany me to work every day, providing comfort to our responders after difficult calls and assisting citizens in need. To ensure that Birdie is well-equipped to perform this crucial role, we need your support to cover his initial supplies and future costs.
