Help Us Change the Future for 40 Children in Haiti
My name is Herby Mompremier, and I’m from Pignon, a rural town in the north of Haiti. Life in Haiti is incredibly hard—especially in recent years. Since the assassination of our president in 2021, there has been no functioning government, and gangs have taken control of much of the country. Unemployment is between 70–80%, and more than half of all children don’t attend school. Despite these challenges, I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to serve and uplift my community.
I was raised by my grandparents, along with my brother and sister. Over the years, I’ve worked in any way I could—often making and selling handmade jewelry to American visitors—to help support my family and pay for my sister’s education. In 2019, I met Tracy, a missionary who started buying earrings from me. Over time, we became close friends and began dreaming about how we could do more for the children in my country.
The Beginning of the Children’s Club
In 2021, on a bus ride to visit my grandparents, we passed through a village in St. Raphael. I was struck by the children running alongside the bus, begging. I asked the driver to stop, and I gathered the children in a nearby field. I asked them why they were begging. They told me they were poor, had no fathers, and no food. I shared with them a Bible story and the truth that there is a God who loves them. I used the small amount of money I had—intended for my grandparents—to buy them cookies.
That single moment changed my life. I began returning to the village every Saturday, telling Bible stories, giving out small treats, and playing soccer. The “Children’s Club” grew quickly—soon more than 120 children were coming each week.
A woman in the village let us use the area behind her house for shelter. As more people joined, her space became too small. With help from Tracy and her friends, we were able to build a church in May 2022, and by the next year, we bought the land the church sits on.
A Growing Mission
The transformation in the village did not go unnoticed. A local school and the mayor partnered with us, and the school began offering discounted tuition for 26 children. A pastor who had been working in the Dominican Republic returned to help lead the church and serve the community.
In 2022, I finally received my passport. With great difficulty, I pursued a humanitarian visa to the United States. After months of waiting in Mexico—often homeless and unable to work—I was finally able to fly to Minneapolis in June 2024. This was the first time I met Tracy in person.
A New Opportunity: Help Us Send 40 Children to School
Now, we’ve been given an incredible opportunity. The same school that has already supported 26 of our children has approached us with a 10-year partnership. If we help them expand their facilities, they will allow us to send 40 children to school—every year, for the next decade.
We are asking for $30,000. It’s a big number, but it will pay tuition for 40 children for 10 years.
This is more than just education—it’s a path to a better future. In a country where opportunity is rare, education is life-changing. It brings dignity, hope, and the possibility of a different future for these children, their families, and their entire community.
How You Can Help
We are asking you to partner with us. Whether it’s a one-time gift or a monthly donation, every dollar goes directly to educating children and building a better future in Haiti.
Thank you for believing in the future of Haiti—and for helping us give these children a chance.
With hope,
