This is my husband Herbert. He got burned on Tuesday of last week. He was taken to UAB by ambulance and admitted into the trauma burn unit with 25 percent of his body burned. He has second-degree burns on both hands, left forearm, both legs, and his genitals. He had to have surgery on Friday for some skin grafting and cleaning up his wounds.
He may be taken out of work for some time, and due to our children being small and having special needs, we are having to have our parents care for them at this time. I am having to travel back and forth from Birmingham and Albertville, which takes a lot of gas. Even though I have a small 4-cylinder car, we have no income as he was the provider of the family while I am the caretaker of our children.
It’s going to take $60 to get my car out of a parking garage here at the hospital. He is going to need home health to come out to the house, which the hospital is willing to pay for. We do not have the funds to cover any medical bills, the ambulance ride, his medications, and our rent and/or power bill at home as well. We are not sure how long he is going to have to stay in the hospital or how long he will be out of work. We cannot afford daycare, and my parents have jobs to work as well.
I’m too eager to have to go home at some point in time today, which is going to take what gas I have left, and I won’t have the gas to get back here to bring him home when he is released. Anything helps, and I don’t like to ask for help, but at this moment, we are in desperate need. Please, anyone that can help, even if it’s only a dollar. Anything helps! Thank you so much in advance!
