We are starting this fundraiser for someone very special to us. She is one of our employees. I have kept her name private for now, out of respect for her privacy but feel free to reach out to me directly with questions. I will continue to update with her permission.
She is in her early 20s, incredibly kind, and one of the most dependable, hardworking people we have. She shows up, gives her all, and never complains. But behind that strength is a story that most of us can’t even imagine.
With her permission, we want to share a little more about her background. She was placed into foster care as a baby because her birth mother was only 15 at the time. She was also born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Despite the challenges that can come with that, she is continuing to learn necessary life skills and working so hard to build a life for herself and continues to push forward every single day.
She grew up in foster care and aged out of the system. She has no family. Literally not a single person to fall back on. No safety net. No one to call when life gets hard.
A couple of years ago, she had initially come to Sheridan through VOA and then she had been staying with a friend’s grandmother for awhile, but that situation has unfortunately come to an end.
Now she’s facing the challenge of starting completely on her own. She is staying in a hotel and we’re helping her as much as we can. But that all adds up quickly and this is something that is hard for anyone, but especially without any family at all.
She is continuing to work 30+ hours a week with us and is even willing to pick up a second job. She is determined. But getting established with deposits, rent, basic furniture, household items, adds up quickly.
My daughter and I have committed to helping her however we can. We’re currently helping with transportation and will be getting her a bus pass while she works toward getting her license.
She is not someone who would ever ask for help on her own but we know she needs it, and she deserves it.
We are asking for help from our community to give her a real chance at stability.
Funds raised will go toward:
•Temporary housing/hotel
• Securing housing (deposits/rent)
• Basic furnishings and household necessities
• Transportation needs
• And, if possible, an affordable vehicle to help her get to and from work
Having no family is something most of us will never fully understand. A support system is everything and right now, she doesn’t have one.
We’re hoping to change that.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even offer helpful resources, it would mean more than you know.
Thank you for helping us support someone who truly deserves a chance.
