In December 2021 I was diagnosed with a rare form of Bone Cancer, Chondrosarcoma Stage 3 in my pelvic bone and joint going into my spine. My cancer was 1 in 2 million. Only chance was to have surgery to get rid of the cancer. The surgery was in 2022 and took 10 hours to remove a large portion of my right pelvic bone and the joint. It was replaced with both a cadivier bone and joint. Fast foward months after, the cadivier bone did not fuse to my bone. and began to deterate, causing that side of my pelvic bone to become much higher. My Doctor at Sloan Kettering said another surgery is too risky to remove the deterated bone, because it could cause infection and I would risk loosing my leg.
I'm unable to walk without assistance, I went from using a wheel chair, then a walker and now I use crutches. I can no longer work, I can't bend , pick up anything more than 5 lbs, due to the bone that could break apart I can't stay in any one position more than few minutes or my side hurts worse. e Everyday life things I can no longer physically do, I am permanently disabled from my surgery. Each day by 2 pm my right calf and ankle swell and I need to lay on my side for the remaining of the day. My quality of life has changed forever.
I am grateful the cancer hasn't returned as of yet. I continue to go get my scans every six months at MSK to ensure it didn't return. The stress of that luminng over my mind and the lack of financial stability is beyond comprehension. I struggle to pay my monthly bills, unpaid medical bills not covered by insurance, repairs needed for the car I use to go to doctor visits, everyday living expenses , etc All have become difficult to manage. I am a single mom, doing it by myself. I am in desperate need of any kind of help to get through this horrible time in my life. I try to stay positive each day and remain thankful I am alive but it's difficult when each day is a struggle financially.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story
