My relative is facing an incredibly challenging and dangerous situation. She was recently assaulted by her husband which gave her the wake up call to escape from years of domestic violence and abuse. On top of this, she is also battling cancer and needs to get custody of her child.
This situation has left her in urgent need of support and stability.
Abusers isolate you from your support system and sabotage your financial independence. Leaving these situations is never easy especially with the added stress of cancer and a child to protect. She is determined to take the steps necessary to change their lives for the better, but the financial burden is overwhelming, making it difficult for her to move forward.
The funds raised will help her secure safe housing, pay for critical medical bills, afford daily necessities, and hire a family lawyer to get full custody.

For her and her child’s safety as we navigate this situation, we are unable to share specific details, but we will share updates!
As of 4/18/26:
- We have secured housing and transportation for her.
- A 6-month protection order (without a finding of abuse) has been granted.
- She has found a pro-bono legal service to help her file for divorce.
- Her cancer metastasized to her liver and she now has stage IV melanoma. Her doctor said that at this point, treatment isn't about curing her, it's about prolonging her life. Her prognosis is unclear, but considered "high-risk" of mortality. She is undergoing immunotherapy.
- Given her diagnosis, she is giving up on custody.
- We got her a cat! She is very happy to have a companion to help her through this very tough time.
- Any donations will continue to help alleviate her financial burden with this situation.
- My partner and I are able to and will continue to financially support her basic needs.
- Dropping the goal down to $3k since we weren't able to raise enough for a family lawyer in time! We will keep this up in case someone really generous wants to donate, but won't be promoting our fundraiser anymore to focus our energy on her quality of life left.
