Henry Salazar has proudly served Dallas Fire-Rescue Fire Department for 22 years. He loves nothing more than being at work with his guys and is so proud to call Station 39 his home.
Henry knows no strangers, and those who may not have worked directly with him at the department have developed a relationship after hiring him to work on their air conditioning systems with his business, 1 Alarm Heat and AC. At this point, Henry knows hundreds of your mothers, fathers, sisters, grandmothers, and more. They’ve welcomed him into their homes, and he fondly tells stories of meeting them and their families—including their dogs and cats!
Henry and his wife Lari married in January of 2022, and just months later, he was diagnosed with metastatic cholangiocarcinoma. The diagnosis came after a series of tests, beginning with some concerns raised in his annual physical for the department. Since then he has undergone several rounds of treatment—beginning with surgery where more than half of his liver was removed. Henry and his family were hopeful the surgery and following rounds of chemo and immunotherapy would mean a clean bill of health, but the cancer has returned and spread to a spot near his spinal cord.
He has just completed a course of radiation in hopes of reducing the tumor there, and is now undergoing chemo to address the other spots in his liver and lymph nodes. Henry’s motto is that if he’s breathing, he’s fighting, and he’s determined to do whatever it takes to defeat this awful disease. Along the way he has talked with other firefighters who are in the same battle. Unfortunately, they understand all too well this journey is like. The headaches, nausea, fatigue, and emotional pain all take their toll.
At the same time, Henry has so much to live for—his daughter graduating from nursing school in May and son getting married in June. Not to mention, more trips to his happy place Puerto Vallarta to get out on the ocean and chase more trophy fish, eat tacos, and lay on the beach.
If you’re led to give—thank you in advance. The donations will be used to help cover the cost of Henry’s medical treatment. Most of all, thank you for continued prayers, and for being more than friends. Thank you for being Henry’s family. For those of you who are DFR family, and are wanting to help and volunteer with lawn care, taking food or doing things around their house we will be sending out something soon for you to sign up!
