Millions of people around the world have visited District 12 through The Hunger Games films.

What many fans don't realize is that District 12 is a real place.

Nestled in the foothills of North Carolina, Henry River Mill Village served as the filming location for District 12. For generations before Hollywood arrived, it was a thriving mill community where families worked, lived, shopped, and built their lives.

At the center of the village stands the historic Company Store.

In The Hunger Games films, this building became part of the District 12 town square and helped bring the world of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark to life. Fans often associate this location with the Mellark family bakery, where Peeta learned the skills that would one day save his life—and where a simple act of kindness, a loaf of bread given to a starving girl, changed everything.

Today, this historic building faces a very real threat.

Years of exposure to the elements have taken a devastating toll. Holes in the roof allow water to pour into the structure, accelerating deterioration and threatening the building's survival. Without immediate intervention, we risk losing not only a significant piece of North Carolina history but also an iconic location cherished by Hunger Games fans around the world.

Through the Henry River Preservation Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are launching an effort to stabilize and preserve the Company Store before it is too late.

Our long-term restoration needs are estimated at nearly $1 million, but our immediate goal is to raise funds for emergency stabilization and roof preservation to stop further damage.

Phase 1: Emergency Roof Stabilization Fund – $100,000

Phase 2: Structural Preservation Fund – $250,000
